Ron Stewart, Boulder County Parks and Open Space Director, presided over a ribbon-cutting ceremony May 10 to mark the opening of the final segment of the Niwot Loop Trail, winding from 83rd Street east along Dry Creek to Niwot Sanitation District property, then south to connect to a trail between two irrigation ditches behind Niwot High School, all the way to Niwot Road. The Niwot Loop Trail crosses Niwot Road and extends south almost to Highway 52 before turning west and connecting with the LOBO trail along 79th Street.
Boulder County Parks and Open Space Director
Ron Stewart explains the progression of the last
segment of the Niwot Loop Trail, opened officially on May 10, 2012.
On hand were county commissioners Cindy Domenico, Wil Toor and Deb Gardner, St. Vrain Valley School Board member Debbie Lammers, St. Vrain Valley School District Superintendent and former Niwot High Principal Don Haddad, and Niwot Sanitation District Board President Kristin Rahenkamp. The Niwot Community Association, which began advocating for the project in 2005, was represented by Board Member Dick Piland and Roque Ramirez, who was standing in for his wife, NCA President Heidi Storz.

Stewart and others praised the cooperative effort among community members, the governmental agencies and the NCA to see the project through, which was completed without the expenditure of any tax dollars. Funding for the project came entirely from cash in lieu payments collected by Boulder County as each subdivision in the area was built. Approximately 40 bikers, walkers, park rangers and community members applauded the work of Parks and Open Space staff members Jason Himick, project manager, and Jim Daus, real estate land officer, who were responsible for overseeing construction and obtaining necessary easements, respectively.
Over 40 people were on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony
on May 10, 2012, for the completion of the Niwot Loop Trail segment in
Niwot at 83rd Street and Dry Creek: (l to r) Will Toor (County Commissioner),

Debbie Lammers (St. Vrain Valley School District Board Member),
