In explaining why the Niwot Community Association chose Wise Buys Antiques owners Tim and Carrie Wise to be this year’s Grand Marshals, NCA board member Kathy Koehler said, “We want to honor someone who has given back to the community and they were the logical choice this year. Tim really spearheaded the sign project and Carrie has been active on the LID which has really been doing a lot lately in the community. Tim is a go-to person whenever you have a problem. He knows who has the keys or where the breaker switch is.

After traveling 1940 miles from Florida to Colorado, the Courier Duck has made it back. While still in seclusion until the Sixth Annual Left Hand Valley Courier Duck Race, the duck is thrilled to be back in our fair burg.
On top of that, it’s thrilling to know that so many people have cared enough to send in names. Kudos for all the great suggestions.
The winning entry will be announced at the Duck Race at Nostalgia Day on Saturday, Sept. 8.
The race will be held, as usual, on Dry Creek at Centerbridge Road. Everyone is holding their breath that the creek doesn’t live up to its name. I’m thinking of organizing a rain dance a few days before the race.
If anyone cares to guess where the duck was hanging out in Florida, send your guesses to me Nellie Nibnose at

Property owners in Niwot’s Second Avenue business district voted in July to approve loosening parking requirements in the district, and Boulder County Commissioners unanimously approved the those changes at the board’s July 31 meeting.
The new regulations apply to the Niwot Rural Community District, which encompasses the commercial area along Second Avenue, and Franklin and Murray streets.

Duck Found
Congratulations to our alert duck observer Sydney Studholme who found one of our rubber duckies at the Niwot Market. Sydney gets a free entry in the Courier’s Sixth Annual Duck race on Sept. 8. See you there.

Rep. Dickie Lee Hullinghorst (D-Gunbarrel) has been named to the Center For Women Policy Studies’ National Honor Roll of State Legislators.
Hullinghorst said, “I consider it a great honor to be named to their honor roll. I’ve worked on women’s rights and reproductive rights since the early 70s. I’m proud of where we’ve gone and we have a lot more work to do. I’ll be working on women’s issues and … reproductive rights in the state legislature when I have the opportunity to do so.”
According to a press release, the center, located in Washington D.C., honors legislators who pledge their “mutual commitment to the goal of equality and empowerment for American women” and agree “to work together to overcome discrimination based on sex, race, class, age, immigration status, sexual orientation, religion and disability.”
Hullinghorst is the minority whip in the Colorado State House of Representatives and is completing her third term.
