Gabby Najera (Silver Creek) was named Honorable Mention by the All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in a vote of conference coaches. She is a senior captain for St. Cloud State University. Najera, a midfielder-defender, started all 19 games for St. Cloud and played the second-most minutes for the season, posting four assists. St. Cloud finished with a record of 10-8-1.

Makayla Palmer (Niwot) won the 200Y Freestyle and took third in the 200Y Backstroke for Whitworth College in a dual meet win over Lewis & Clark College. Palmer, a sophomore, also swam a leg of the fourth-place mixed 200Y Freestyle Relay at the NWC Relays.

John Stearns, formerly of Gunbarrel, will be inducted into the Colorado High School Activities Association Hall of Fame Jan. 19, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel in Denver with five other individuals to be honored. Stearns was chosen for his performance as a prep athlete at Thomas Jefferson High School, where he played baseball, basketball and football. “Each of the inductees has left a snapshot of his/her impact on the organization in a positive way,” CHSAA Commissioner Paul Angelico said. “They each represent the thousands of people who have been a part of the CHSAA for the past 90 years.”

Jonathan Sdao of Niwot scored the only goal for the Corpus Christi IceRays, but it wasn’t enough as the IceRays fell to the Texas Tornado, 3-1. Sdao is in his first season with the IceRays.
Michael Sdao of Niwot scored the game-winning goal for Princeton on a power play in a 4-3 victory over Brown. Sdao’s goal came early in the third period and broke a 3-3 tie. He also scored in a 5-3 loss to Yale at the end of the first period. Sdao later assisted on the first goal of the game for Princeton in a 2-1 win over Cornell. Princeton is 4-4 so far this season.

Paco Retana-Quinones (Niwot) is wrestling for Mesa State College after placing fourth in Class 4A for Niwot last season. While at Niwot he set a school record for falls. Retana-Quinones is listed at 184 pounds, but wrestled at 197 pounds in the Cowboy Open, where he lost his first two matches.
