August Brings Festivals with Food, Fun and Plenty of Music
BY LIZ EMMETT-MATTOX
Just because Nostalgia Day is on hiatus this year, it doesn’t mean that residents and visitors won’t find plenty of fun in Niwot this summer. In fact, three events over two weeks will offer residents and visitors plenty opportunities to enjoy what makes Niwot great and perhaps learn a little about the history of the town along the way.
With Left Handers Day on Aug. 10, Jazz on 2nd Ave on Aug. 17, and the first ever Left Hand Scavenger Hunt in between, event organizers are working hard to make sure that there will be plenty of food, drinks, culture, history, games, and of course, music and more music to liven up the dog days of summer.Read more: August Brings Festivals with Food, Fun and Plenty of Music August 2013

Road Repairs: PID or LID?
BY KIM GLASSCOCK
Boulder County officials have been busy informing voters in unincorporated Boulder County subdivisions about the November ballot proposal to form a public improvement tax district (PID) to permanently fund unincorporated subdivision road repairs.
If the PID proposal is defeated, Boulder County Commissioners said they will put a local improvement taxing district (LID) in place.
Property owners in affected subdivisions received an eight-page brochure from the county in early July that detailed the road problems and two funding options. County transportation and legal staff also held information meetings for residents, including meetings in Niwot and Gunbarrel. About 75 residents attended each meeting.Read more: Road Repairs: PID or LID? August 2013

Boulder City Officials Address Gunbarrel Utility Concerns
BY MARY WOLBACH LOPERT
Boulder city officials, including Mayor Matt Applebaum, City Council member Macon Cowles and City Attorney Tom Carr, were invited to speak to Gunbarrel residents concerning the city’s proposed creation of an electric utility.
Sponsored by the pro-municipalization Gunbarrel Energy Future Citizens Group, the June 6 meeting gave Gunbarrel residents an opportunity to hear from city officials and to question them about the impact a Boulder-owned utility would have on Gunbarrel.
Carr said Gunbarrel is being included in the proposed area because two of the six substations needed by the city are located there.
