Matthew Zavala Carries Olympic Flame 


Matthew Zavala, a junior at Niwot High School, is honored to be one of the 11,500  Americans chosen to help carry the Olympic torch.  Matthew, the junior class president, thinks his godmother may have nominated him.

Renovations Underway At Gunbarrel King Soopers

The plywood scaffolding around the entrance to the Gunbarrel King Soopers means that the store is finally being modernized and brought up to corporate standards. 

 
Joe Pelle Throws Badge In Ring For Sheriff 

Joe Pelle (43), a Colorado native and a one time resident of Niwot, hopes to fill the large shoes of Sheriff George Epp.  Epp must retire next year due to term limits.  Pelle was born in Burlington, Colo. and grew up in Boulder,graduating from Fairview High School.  He has a Masters of Criminal Justice from CU and a Bachelor of Science, Criminal Justice and Public Administration degree from Metropolitan State College of Denver. Pelle has also studied at the Senior Management Institute for Police in Boston.


 

 

Valentine’s Day For The Very Young Miss Catherine’s Creative Learning Centers 

Remember all the fun of making Valentine boxes?  Suddenly, an old shoebox or tissue box could be magically transformed into a snowy-white mailbox, just waiting for those sweet cards from all your classmates.  That tradition is being carried on at Miss Catherine’s Creative Learning Center. 
 
 

NYS Baseball and Softball Signups Soon

Registration for Niwot Youth Sports baseball and softball programs is just around the corner.  NYS President Bob Topping reports that signups will be held Saturday, Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon  and on Sunday, Feb 24 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Niwot High School.

A Sweetheart Of A Deal At Portabello’s Restaurant 

Longtime Niwot residents Annie and Eric Lee, owners of Portabello’s Restaurant in south Longmont, are running a great Valentine’s Day special


 

Qwest Building Expansion Approved 

The application by Qwest to expand its existing switching building at 8296 Niwot Road by 3,500 square feet was approved by the Boulder County Planning Commission on Jan. 16.  The planning commission vote was unanimous.
