MVFD Is On The Medical Attack

June 18, The Mountain View Fire Department (MVFD) officially put its new Medical Attack Vehicle into service. The 300 horsepower truck will be available to area residents with medical emergencies "24/7." The unit will be based at the Mountain View Fire Station on Niwot Road.

"This unit is equipped to fight fires too," explained Chris Queen, a 14-year veteran. "It carries a 30 pound air-foam system, enough to put out a car fire or a one room fire." He also stated that most of the calls are for "chest pain, shortness of breath." Auto accidents are a close second.

Queen is one of six Paramedics/Certified firefighters who will man the ambulance in three shifts.

Patients will be taken to one of three area hospitals, depending on the medical protocol: Boulder Community, Longmont United or Avista Hospitals.

Left Hand Water District Replaces
Gunbarrel Water Lines

Work crews have begun replacement of the water pipes in Gunbarrel Estates as part of a three-year project.

Left Hand Water District, which serves the area, has had an unusually large number of leaks in the Gunbarrel area during the past several years. Originally installed by developer Bowron Builders, Inc., as part of a private well water and distribution system for homes in the area, the piping was cast iron and had begun to rust. In the early 1970’s Left Hand Water District took over operation of the system.

According to Kathy Peterson, manager of Left Hand Water District, "The County required that we overlay the entire roadbed, rather than simply patch the roadway. This (overlay) increased the cost significantly and hence the project will be phased over three years."
