Farewell After 30 Years At Niwot ElementaryBy Mandy Sutyak
Judy Gould , who many consider the face of Niwot Elementary School (NES), is retiring after 30 years as school secretary. Gould started working for the St. Vrain Valley School District in 1974 as a part-time clerk at Mountain View Elementary School . In 1976, she moved to NES where her children were students and where she was able to work full-time.
RMCC Challenges County Commissioners' Decision
By Betty ParhamWhen the Boulder County Commissioners rejected most aspects of an application for a 132,000 square foot expansion requested by the Rocky Mountain Christian Church (RMCC) in February, no one involved with the issue really expected that it would settle the matter. Although the commissioners agreed to permit the church to replace modular classroom buildings with larger permanent buildings and also approved a small remodeling of the sanctuary, most of the proposal was rejected as an over-intensive use of the land and contrary to the Boulder County Comprehensive Plan.

Been Here A Long, Long Time
Niwot Businesses Reach Milestone YearsBy Donna Currie
New businesses tend to get the attention, but like those jeans that fit “just right” or those shoes that are broken in after hours of walking, long-time businesses are treasures.
Niwot has quite a few business that have weathered the test of time. Their success should be celebrated.
As this picture shows, Whistle Stop Park is an excellent name for Niwot's latest endeavor. Niwot Business Association members, Boy Scouts and community volunteers installed fencing near the railroad tracks April 22. Tim Wise of Wise Buys Antiques coordinated the project, which was completed in a day, thanks to the large turnout. Euvaldo Valdez of Left Hand Corner arranged for a partial donation of the fencing material from United Wood Products and Armando Bustamonte. Bill O'Donnell of Scout Troop 161 brought 10 scouts, including Luke Stager, Nick Stager, Chris Wittenberg, Kevin Wittenberg, Alex Hirano, Reid McKenzie, Dutch Maydew, Kirk Wilkinson, Hunter Helrich and Aaron Buseman. Jacob Jelosek and Brandon Adams of Longmont Christian High School also volunteered.
Adults who contributed included Cliff Tharp, Dennis Kapela, Biff Warren, Patrick McKenzie, Bruce Helrich, Eric Wittenberg, Joe Buseman, Jeff Knight and Dennis Korpela. Niwot Market provided food for the workers while Niwot Liquor supplied soft drinks.

Prairie Dogs: Why are we backing the bullies?
Letter To The Editor:
You bleeding-heart liberals of the far-left press just don't get it! We're not against prairie dog migration. We're against ILLEGAL prairie dog migration. Homeowners in Somerset, for example, are beside themselves. Instead of the nice, neat, round holes of our beloved native prairie dogs, they are seeing more and more oblong and oval holes being dug by illegal prairie dogs from such nasty places as Wyoming and Nebraska. And many of the round holes are not so round and not so neat anymore…
It's a Laughing Matter
By Mary Wolbach Lopert
All right you scrubs, you neophytes, you newbies, you graduates. You think that diploma, which isn't even in your case until you pay those library fines and settle the tab at the bookstore, is going to get you anywhere? Think again, because it won't.
