    The second annual Let’s Wine About Winter event, went off without a hitch last Saturday, Feb. 20. But if you attended last year’s event, you noticed one very stark difference—the weather. A blizzard accompanied last year’s inaugural event, which still has people talking about to this day. Many were hoping another blizzard would roll in just in time, but Mother Nature had other plans.     Once kids reach high school, it’s usually time for them to get their first summer job, which has become increasingly harder to find. The Boulder County Summer Youth Corps program offers jobs to students ages 14-17 who are looking for a different and unique summer job. Beginning in 1996, the Youth Corps was created to address the problem of very few jobs for students. It focuses on hiring first-time workers, many just 14 and 15 years-old.     Although the Niwot High School girls swimming and diving team did not place highly at state, the girls had a great finish to their season at the state championships, on Friday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 13, according to Coach Sarah Stamp. With 10 girls making it to the championship meet, the Cougars were prepared to swim their best times possible. Those competing were Amalia Luthens, Camryn Kenkel, Hanna Luo, Kristi Vu, Sonia Martinez, Claire Jepson, Madison Barkow, and Izzie Mitchell, as well as alternates Chase Balman and Eva Kitlen.     Recent construction projects seem to have no end in sight, which is why many people are wary when they hear of a future construction project in their neighborhood. That’s why Boulder County Transportation (BCT) held an open house meeting at the Left Hand Grange on Wednesday, Feb. 10, to discuss two upcoming projects with the Niwot community.     If you’ve been near Whistle Stop Park lately, then you’ve seen all the progress being made at the future Niwot Children’s Park across the street. Playground equipment is going up and community members are anxiously awaiting the park’s opening.     The January meeting for the Niwot Community Association (NCA) was held on Wed., Jan. 6. Some board members were absent due to colds or being on vacation, but the meeting proceeded as normal. NCA members discussed nominations for outstanding NCA volunteers, to recognize people who volunteer their time and efforts at various NCA events.
