The October monthly town hall meeting of the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) was held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Gunbarrel the evening of Thursday, Oct. 13. All three Commissioners were present and around 15 citizens from the Gunbarrel area were in attendance. Sales tax in Boulder County has included 0.1% for multimodal transportation for more than 20 years. That tax is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2024. The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) placed issue 1C on the ballot to allow voters to decide if this tax should be extended without an expiration date. One service for which these funds are used is transit services, such as on-demand transit between Boulder, Lyons, Gold Hill and Fort Collins. The Niwot Historical Society (NHS) held its first public lecture with a live audience since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic on Sept. 18 in the Left Hand Grange No. 9. The lecturer was Larry Dorsey, well-known railroad historian, trustee of the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden and past chair of the Superior Historical Commission. Participants purchase a durable banner honoring an active duty member or veteran of the United States Armed Forces. The Boulder Symphony held its largest fundraiser of the year surrounded by the Stephen Tebo Car Collection at Tebo Garage in southwest Longmont on Friday, Aug. 12. Several transportation issues that could affect Niwot residents and visitors are in the news. The Regional Transportation District (RTD) has approved a five-year plan that is the largest overhaul of the system since the 1970s. However, the plan is to return service to only 85% of pre-pandemic levels. Not all services will return from being suspended during the pandemic.
