    Long time Niwot resident Ann Hicks passed away in Longmont, CO on Tuesday, March 21. Ann was born to Herbert E. Warfel and Gladys Lucille (Talbot) Warfel on March 4, 1930, in Norman, Ok. Ann was raised in New England and graduated from high school at an American school in Manila, Philippines, in 1948. She then attended Western State College in Gunnison, CO earning her BS in Education with a minor in Art. Ann met the love of her life, Dick Hicks of Olathe, CO. They were married June 14, 1953....

    Frederic Eugene (Gene) Dion, III, 70, passed away from natural causes on February 25th, 2017 at his home in Boulder, CO. Known as Good Time Montana Gene, he loved playing the jug, listening to blues music, and riding motorcycles. He was a proud founding member in good standing of Hell’s Tunas Motorcycle Club.     The Niwot Cougar baseball team snapped its four-game losing streak with a sweep of the Greeley Central Wildcats in a two-game home-and-home series last weekend.     The only thing predictable about high school sports is their unpredictability, and nowhere was that more evident than in the performance of the Niwot girls soccer team last week. On Tuesday, the Cougars floundered on both offense and defense in their first ever loss to cross-town rival Skyline.     The Niwot girls track and field team continued to dominate the local competition, picking up wins at the St. Vrain Re-1J District meet on March 23 and at the Broomfield Shootout on March 25. The boys also fared well at the District meet, finishing second out of nine teams, and placed 23rd at the Broomfield meet, in a 33-team field that included several Class 5A schools.   • Agho named NHS Volleyball Coach

    Daisha Agho, who has coached Berthoud volleyball for the past eight years, has been named the new Niwot High volleyball coach. Under Agho, Berthoud finished with a record of 21-6 last season, advancing to the state Class 4A tournament. There the Spartans beat Windsor before being eliminated by eventual state champion Lewis-Palmer.     The Niwot girls tennis team lost 5-2 in an away match to perennial power Cheyenne Mountain on Wednesday, March 22. It was the second straight loss on the road for the team after a home win over Colorado Academy to begin the season.
