On an otherwise beautiful spring day, the Niwot Cougars baseball team turned in its ugliest performance of the season last Saturday, losing 16-6 at home to league opponent Centaurus (3-9, 1-7) in the second of a two-game series. Niwot was outplayed in all three phases of the game, going a collective 6-for-30 at the plate on the day, while committing five errors and surrendering 13 hits. After consecutive match losses to close out the month of March left the squad in a 1-2 hole, the Niwot girls tennis team came out swinging after spring break. The Cougars posted three consecutive dominant victories in the first week of April, winning 6-1 over Thompson Valley, 6-1 over Broomfield and posting a 7-0 shutout against Silver Creek to give Niwot a 4-2 overall recordd on the season. On April 8, the Niwot track and field teams traveled to south Denver to compete in the small but exclusive Mullen Invitational, and once again there were many familiar names at the top of the girls leaderboard. Niwot girls head soccer coach Stephen Dimit was unabashedly pleased with his team’s performance at home against the Palmer Ridge Bears last Saturday. The Silver Creek boys swim team has passed the quarter-pole of its 2017 season, with some goals already accomplished and others still outstanding.
