Rock & Rails will kick off its 12th summer concert series on June 1 with Mojomama w/ Bass Legends as the headliner at Whistle Stop Park in Niwot. The goal to help low-income students have access to drum lessons continues this weekend for Boulder Drum Studio and the Drumming for Jared program. Larry Bennett, who owns and operates the studio, established Drumming for Jared earlier this year following the tragic October 2016 death of 19-year-old Niwot resident Jared Lizakowski in a motorcycle accident on Niwot Road. The rescheduled spring cleaning of Niwot Children’s Park saw 18 people, young and old, show up to rake wood chips, pick up a few pieces of trash, pull some weeds, and spruce up the park last Saturday. Park fundraising coordinator Riki Frea was on hand with her children, and reported that the damage caused by vandals last fall has been repaired at no cost, thanks to the manufacturer’s repair kit. Years ago the Niwot Cookie Moms developed a holiday tradition of using their baking skills to show appreciation for US troops serving overseas. This year those baked confections were joined by dozens of Valentine’s Day cards, all made by local youngsters to be shipped out in about 25 care packages. The Rotary Club of Niwot is bringing it’s Oktoberfest fundraiser back to Niwot for its eighth year. The event, which will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., is one of the biggest fundraisers the club puts on each year. “It gets more popular every year,” Niwot Rotary Club member Margaret Hix said. “I think more and more people are [attending], and it’s now become a community event. Rock & Rails ended its summer concert series last week, and organizers say it was the best so far. More than $81,000 in beverage sales was raised over the 13 weeks of concerts at Whistle Stop Park in Niwot. The Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band has been given the honor of playing the National Anthem at the Colorado Rockies game on June 27, but their story neither starts nor ends there. This June, Abo’s Pizza is celebrating 20 years of selling New York-style pizza to the Niwot community. Located in Cottonwood Square, the restaurant is a longtime favorite for inexpensive quality pizza.
