Proposition 124 - Increase Allowable Liquor Store Locations Citizens Proposition 124 would allow retail liquor stores to apply to state and local governments to open additional locations on a phased-in schedule, with no limit on the number of permissible locations after 2037. A “no” vote on Proposition 124 retains current law that limits retail liquor stores...
The tragic death of Niwot resident and Lefty's Pizza owner, Craig "Lefty" Harris, was a rare fatality at the intersection of Niwot Road and Highway 119. Accident data from the Colorado Department of Transportation shows one other fatality since 2005. "Our safety performance metrics using 2018 - 2020 crash data show that the total frequency of crashes is consistent with similar intersection types at similar traffic volumes," Communications Manager Jared Fiel said. "However, the frequency of...

Stacey Slupik sat down with the Left Hand Courier's Dana Jones to talk about the farm. What is one quote (and who said it) that is close to your heart with regard to Slupik Mini Farm? I don't know who first said it, and there are a...

When you buy a business, you expect a reasonable number of "hiccups." But owners, Tara Shaheen and Stacy Szydlek, who were part of Niwot Tavern restaurant staff, got more than they bargained for. "We bought the restaurant in January of 2020," said Shaheen. "In February, there was a fire in the kitchen and in March, well you know, everything shut down." But despite some tough going, the restaurant has not only survived, but thrived. Szydlek said that the former owners, Tony Santelli and Bob Russe...

It is not uncommon to see similar businesses in fierce competition with each other. All it takes is 15 minutes of TV to see the competition between grocery stores, car companies and yes, even lawyers. But the world of independent brewers is a bit different – congenial and downright cooperative. That spirit of cooperation was on display at a recent Thursday night Rock & Rails concert when there was a problem with one of the beer lines. "Dan (Hawk) came up to me and told me that one of the tap l...
