One of the highlights for the Nov. 7 election included Question 1B, increasing the limit for Boulder County Sheriff to five four-year terms. The measure passed by around 10,000 votes, 55.16 to 44.84 percent. Total ballots counted for the county were unofficially 92,811, out of the 237,561 registered voters, representing roughly 39 percent of those eligible to vote. Anyone who has tried to navigate Lookout Road or Spine Road knows about the traffic delays caused by street reconstruction. According to the City of Boulder website, street reconstruction included removing the existing pavement and sub-grade. The roadway is then reconstructed with six to eight inches of new asphalt. On Oct 16, LIGO announced its observatories were able to detect gravitational waves created by the collision of two neutron stars. The collision occurred on Aug. 17. The Boulder County Commissioners and the Boulder County Housing Authority filed a response to a lawsuit from a group of Gunbarrel citizens, asking the court to dismiss the lawsuit concerning the Gunbarrel Public Improvement District (GPID). The suit claims that the county failed to perform on its promise to match “up to” $1.9 million of tax funds raised from a 1993 property tax in Gunbarrel approved by Gunbarrel residents.
