  • Dual celebration as Niwot girls swim wins inaugural meet at new facility

    Jocelyn Rowley|Jan 26, 2022

It has been three long seasons since the Niwot girls swim team has had a home pool, but with the opening of the Aquatic Center of St. Vrain Valley earlier this month, its wandering days are over. On Jan. 21, the Cougars tested the new waters against league rival Roosevelt, and, for head coach Kyle Bachrodt, having a place that the team can officially call its own is nothing short of "amazing." "To be 15 minutes from school is so convenient for us," he said of the new facility, located next to...

  • Local teams reunite at St. Vrain All District Meet

    Jocelyn Rowley|Jan 19, 2022

After a pandemic hiatus in 2021, the girls swim and dive teams from St. Vrain Valley high schools renewed their friendly rivalry at the annual All-District Meet, held Jan. 15 at Mt. View Aquatics Center. Now featuring six teams, after the addition of Frederick, the competition was as fierce as ever, and the final results entirely familiar. For the eighth straight time, the voluminous Silver Creek squad took first place in the team standings, thanks to some speedy relays and a strong contingent...

  • Jamieson Legh shines for Cougars in Mustangs Invite

    Jack Carlough|Jan 12, 2022

With star swimmer Mary Codevilla out for the weekend, it was Jamieson Legh’s turn to take charge for the Niwot girls swim team. The junior dominated in a pair of individual races to help the Cougars finish second in 4A at the Mustang Invitational, which concluded on Jan. 8 at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton. Niwot also finished fourth overall behind Broomfield, Legacy and meet-winner Regis Jesuit. The Cougars would have been well outside the top-five if it weren’t for Legh. In the 100-yard butterfly, Legh took first place and...

  • Niwot finishes second in REX Coaches Invite

    Jack Carlough|Dec 22, 2021

Senior swimmer Mary Codevilla’s Niwot legacy grew a little larger following a pair of historic races at the REX Coaches Invite on Dec. 18. Codevilla, a Notre Dame commit, has been swimming for the USA National Junior Team and the REX Invite was her first meet of the season with Niwot. Her senior debut was a good one as she broke a pair of school records at the Veterans Memorial Aquatics Center in Thornton. Her time of 2:02.56 in the 200 IM and 50.71 in the 100 freestyle were both Niwot bests. Unsurprisingly, both of Codevilla’s record times had...

  • Codevilla leads Niwot to third place at Class 4A championships

    Jocelyn Rowley|Mar 17, 2021

The Niwot swim and dive team didn't claim the top prize at the 2021 Class 4A championships on March 12, but neither did they come home empty-handed. Four Cougars turned in medal winning individual performances on the day, and junior Mary Codevilla even made history with a record-setting time in the 500-yard freestyle. Unfortunately, that wasn't quite enough to overcome Heritage and Mullen in the team standings, and Niwot ended falling just short of its ultimate goal. Afterwards, first-year...

  • Niwot girls clinch Longs Peak League swim title

    Jocelyn Rowley|Mar 10, 2021

If first-year head swim coach Kyle Bachrodt had any doubts about his team's status as a contender for the Class 4A state swim and dive title, then its performance at the 2021 Longs Peak League conference championships put them to rest. After winning eight of the meet's 12 events and setting at least two state-best times along the way, the Cougar swimmers are peaking at exactly the right time, Bachrodt said, and he is looking forward to seeing them in the pool on March 12 with the best in...

  • Niwot swimmers among top in state

    Jocelyn Rowley|Feb 17, 2021

The Niwot girls swim team extended its streak of dominating dual victories to three with a 151-35 win over the brand-new team from Frederick High on Feb. 11. Along the way, Cougar swimmers posted a slew of season-best times and solidified their case as one of the top contenders for the Class 4A title in 2021. "That's one of our strengths at Niwot, the versatility of our swimmers," first-year coach Kyle Bachrodt said following the meet at Carbon Valley Recreation Center. "They can really swim...

  • Niwot girls show off depth in season opener

    Jocelyn Rowley|Feb 3, 2021

It's been nearly a year since the Niwot girls swim and dive hit the pool, but you wouldn't have known it from their performance against Mountain View in the 2021 season opener on Jan. 28. With impressive times from longtime veterans and some speedy newcomers, the Cougar swimmers dominated the Lions, winning 11 of the 12 events. "I couldn't be more excited," first year coach Kyle Bachrodt said afterwards. "The energy was as high as it could be and we had great swims across the board... But it...

  • Silver Creek welcomes district swimming pool

    Jack Carlough|Jan 27, 2021

In April 2020, the St. Vrain Valley School Board authorized an architect design contract for an eight-lane swimming pool to be added onto Silver Creek High School. Nearly a year later, construction is set to begin in February and is expected to be completed in the fall. "People are excited about it," said Silver Creek Athletic Director Patrick DeCamillis. "I think it's a win for the community for sure, not just Silver Creek, but the St. Vrain community and Longmont in general." Up next on the ag...

  • Slew of challenges surface for Niwot swim team

    Jack Carlough|Jan 13, 2021

First-year Niwot girls swim head coach Kyle Bachrodt will have limited time to learn his new team members. Although their final schedule hasn't been decided, meets are permitted to begin as soon as Jan. 25, just one week after the start of practice. Luckily for Bachrodt, he leads a Niwot team that is well-versed in success. The Cougars are coming off back-to-back Northern Conference championships and the expectations remain high in 2021. Former head coach Sarah Stamp stepped down following last...

  • Niwot AD announces Kyle Bachrodt as new swim coach

    Jack Carlough|Oct 21, 2020

Niwot High School athletic director Joe Brown has found his man in Kyle Bachrodt to take the reins for the Niwot swim team. “I really couldn't be more excited,” Bachrodt said. “Niwot is a very well-known program in all of their athletics (and) all of their academics. I've had a few meetings with the other head coaches in all of the sports and with our AD, and I couldn't be more proud to be working alongside with all of those folks.” Bachrodt, who grew up in Evergreen, attended the University of Colorado Boulder and helped win a national champio...

    Jack Carlough|Jul 22, 2020

Niwot High School girls swim coach Sarah Stamp has run out of superlatives for her top swimmer, Mary Codevilla, who appears on the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association 2019-2020 All-American list for the second straight year. "I would say undoubtedly, probably the most well-rounded, top swimmer that (has) come through Niwot, hands down," Stamp said in describing the outstanding swimmer. Codevilla's talent is recognized past Niwot with her name splashed throughout the NISCA...

  • After 11 years, Niwot girls swim head coach Sarah Stamp retires

    Jack Carlough|Jul 22, 2020

Eleven years and a slew of accomplishments later, Niwot girls swimming head coach Sarah Stamp is calling it quits. "It was just time to step away and focus on my full time job and my family," she said. "I have a little one, so time's a precious thing... (it's) time to let someone else come in and take over." During her tenure as a coach at Niwot, Stamp won back-to-back Northern Conference crowns and led the Cougars to a 4A state runner-up spot in 2019. She was also the statewide 4A Coach of the... Full story

  • Codevilla captures two titles at Class 4A state championships

    Jocelyn Rowley|Feb 26, 2020

There weren't very many Cougars in the pool at the 2020 Class 4A swim and dive championships, but what the Niwot state squad lacked in competitors, it more than made up for in impressive swims. Chief among them were Mary Codevilla's stunning performances in 200- and 500-yard freestyle races, which brought the talented sophomore two individual state titles and helped catapult the youthful Cougars into ninth place overall. Afterwards, head coach Sarah Stamp said that she was "thrilled" with the...

  • Niwot swim claims second straight conference championship

    Jocelyn Rowley|Feb 12, 2020

The drive to the Mountain View Aquatic Center in Loveland may have been a little frightful, but that didn't keep the Niwot girls swim and dive team from turning in a delightful performance at the Northern Conference championships on Feb. 7-8. With wins in six of the 12 events and a slew of personal-best swims, the Cougars easily captured a second straight team crown, and picked up another state qualifier to boot. Now head coach Sarah Stamp and her repeat league champions are looking ahead to nex...

    Jocelyn Rowley|Jan 22, 2020

The annual St. Vrain All-District meet marks the midway point of the girls swim season, and after an energetic performance by her top swimmers at this year's event, Niwot head coach Sarah Stamp is renewing her hopes for another top finish at the upcoming Class 4A state championships. "We've been building steadily every week," she said after the friendly but competitive meet, held Jan. 18 at Mountain View Aquatic Center. "Today, there were lots of time drops, and best times across the board. By...

  • Codevilla honored at Coaches Invite

    Dec 25, 2019

Niwot's Mary Codevilla was named the Athlete of the Meet at the Coaches Invite, held at the VMAC on Dec. 21. The sophomore All-American took first in the 100 meter breaststroke, with a time of 1 minute 3.16 seconds, and first in the 200 freestyle (01:50.78). "It was a great way to kick off her high school season," Niwot head swim coach Sarah Stamp said of her performance. "Mary won her two individual events in a very stacked field of swimmers. She also broke the school records in both of these...

  • Niwot girls swim ready to reset for new season

    Jack Carlough|Dec 18, 2019

Coming off a Northern Conference championship and a 4A runner-up finish last season, the Niwot girl's swim team looks to continue its success with a fresh lineup of swimmers. Head coach Sarah Stamp leads a young 2019 squad that has already shown promise. "We're in a unique spot because we graduated 16 seniors last year," said Stamp, who is in her eleventh season at the helm. "I think our seniors this year are finding their voice after having such a powerful and present senior class (last year)....
