Idell Marie Leinweber of Niwot died Friday, May 6, 2016 at Someren Glen Retirement Community, Centennial, Colorado. She was born March 9, 1924 to Charles A. Kneale and Augusta Idell (McKee) Kneale.
Idell’s grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Kneale moved to Niwot in 1888. Thomas was from the Isle of Mann. Her grandparents and parents owned farms east of Niwot on the north side of Niwot Road and Gunbarrel Hill.
Idell attended grade school in Niwot and graduated from Longmont High School. She went to business school in Denver. She was employed by Dow Chemical at Rocky Flats.
Idell married Charles C. Leinweber on July 3, 1943. They bought the farm east of Niwot and farmed there in the 1950s and 1960s. They sold their farm in 1968 and built a home in Niwot at 101 1st Avenue. She subsequently sold the home, which is now the location of the Niwot Children’s Park.
Traveling around the U.S. to rock hound was something they enjoyed. They were Charter Members of the Longmont Gem and Mineral Club and made jewelry from the stones and gems they collected. Idell was an accomplished artist and created beautiful oil paintings. She was a past Noble Grand Rebekah of the Independent Order Of Odd Fellows and also a member of Niwot Historical Society.
Her husband, Chuck, preceded her in death on June 20, 2000. Idell is survived by two sons, Charles A. Leinweber and his wife Carol of Troy, Michigan and Richard N. Leinweber and his wife Bernice of Littleton, Colorado, five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, May 13, 2016, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder with Services following at 11:00. Burial is Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, 8016 Kalmia Avenue, Boulder.
