All Local, All The Time
With one week left before starting the defense of the girls’ state championship, the Niwot High School track teams competed in the St. Vrain Invitational to work out the kinks in their game.
While they didn’t do as well as they did when they dominated their division in the Northern League Championships last week, the Cougars still had some great performances on the girls side.
Sophomore Mackenzie Fidelak won the 300 meter hurdles for Niwot, while the 4x400 team took home first place for the Cougars as well. Junior Alexis Carroll finished in second in the 100 meter hurdles and senior Kela Fetters finished close behind her in fourth.
Fidelak and sophomore Mary Gillett finished sixth and seventh in the 200 meter sprint, and the 4x100 meter relay team placed third.
In the field events, Carroll placed second in the long jump, senior Alyssa Jenkins finished sixth in the triple jump, and freshman Emma Falk tied for fifth in the high jump.
There were some good performances from the boys side too, as senior Isaac Flores finished tenth in the 800 meter and senior Nelson Menjivar finished tenth in the 300 meter hurdles. For the field events senior Noah Woeste finished 12th in the high jump.
The team now rests up and gets prepared for the State Championship, which starts Thursday, May 19 at 8 a.m. at Jeffco Statdium.
