All Local, All The Time
On Oct. 11, the Niwot boys soccer team faced off against rival Silver Creek in a key Northern League matchup. Going into the contest, the Raptors, who hold the Northern League’s top spot, were averaging more than 3 goals per game on 11 shots.
Despite holding Silver Creek to just a single goal, by senior Miguel Toledo, his sixth of the season, Niwot was unable to find the back of the net, losing 1-0, for the fifth time this season. In fact, each Niwot loss in 2016 has been a 1-0 contest.
The Cougars were back at it on Oct. 13th, for a home conference match against the Thompson Valley Eagles (4-9-1, 3-3-1). The Cougars’ offense bounced back, scoring once in each half. Junior Davin Bala scored his first goal of the season, on four shots, while senior Alex Arnold found the back of the net for his seventh in the Cougars’ 2-1 win. Sophomore keeper Mario Munoz played all 80 minutes in goal for the Cougars, allowing just the single goal.
Niwot will play its final regular season game, against crosstown rival Longmont, on Oct. 18. At 3-3, Niwot is currently 5th in the 4A Northern League, but is 10th overall in CHSAA’s Class 4A RPI rankings. Seeding for the regional playoff tournaments will be released on Oct. 23.
