Niwot High Athletic Director Chase McBride announced Wednesday that Jeremy Lanter, an assistant coach and math teacher at Berthoud High School, has been hired as head coach of the Niwot football program.
Lanter replaces Dylan Hollingsworth, who was suspended from teaching and coaching after an incident involving a student in a weight training class. An assault charge against Hollingsworth is pending.
Lanter has served as the defensive coordinator at Berthoud for the past several years, and was on the staff there when McBride was the athletic director. He is also an assistant coach for track and field.
Students at Berthoud spoke highly of Lanter. “He is really fun, and good at his job,” freshman Jenna Willemsen said. Taytlin Harrigfeld, another freshman, said, “He treats all of his students like adults, and with respect, and is good at making everyone feel accepted and welcome.”
“I heard he’s a great defensive coach and he is really good with kids,” Emily Trojahn, who has Lanter as a math teacher, said. “He also works in a way that kids can keep up with.” Another math student, Teagan Holmes, said, “He knows how to appropriately teach a class full of different levels.”
McBride said, “Coach Lanter was fortunate enough to be a part of the football state championships staff at Berthoud and coordinated a defense who just two years ago was the fourth-ranked defense in the state.
“We look forward to Coach Lanter’s student-first approach to the game. He emphasizes success in the classroom as his number one priority. He quotes his mission as “to use football and the lessons it provides as a means of preparing young men to be successful in all aspects of their lives.” His positive energy, commitment to student and student-athletes, and love for the game are just some of the reasons why we believe Coach Lanter to be a perfect fit here at Niwot.”
