All Local, All The Time
Niwot senior Jake Butler recently signed a Letter of Intent to play golf at Midland University (Fremont, NE). Butler, a four-year varsity player, led the team to its first ever appearance to the 2016 State Championship as a Team. He tied for third in the 2016 Class 4A Northern Regional, and was Second Team All-Conference. He is also on the All-Star Academic Team for both CHSAA and Junior Golf Association of Colorado and has been ranked in the top 25 in the Rocky Mountain Region during the summer tour.
“The recruiting process was stressful and exciting at the same time,” Butler said. “I was looking for a college atmosphere where I can excel as a student athlete. Midland University checked all the boxes. Over sixty percent of the students are athletes and each sport has a team of tutors dedicated to them. All the professors know each student-athlete by name. The GPAC [Great Plains Athletic Conference] is one of the most competitive conferences in the Midwest and Midland is consistently in the top tier each year. I look forward to competing against some of the best the Midwest has to offer.”
Ed Weaver, Niwot Head Coach said, “Jake was the leader of our team in 2016. He has been committed to making himself a better golfer. It’s been great to see Jake’s hard work and dedication pay off. This is a great example of the opportunities that exist for players that want to move ahead with their golf and academic careers.”
Midland’s Head Golf Coach and Assistant Athletic Director, Nick Swaney, said of Butler, “We are very excited for Jake to join our program and our University. Jake is a talented young man on the course and has the ability to enhance our team culture. I look forward to seeing him grow as a person and in his golf game during his career at Midland. Jake has high expectations for himself and we will do everything we can to help him reach and exceed those expectations.”
Butler will complete his signing with a ceremony at Niwot High School in April.
