All Local, All The Time
Long time Niwot resident Ann Hicks passed away in Longmont, CO on Tuesday, March 21.
Ann was born to Herbert E. Warfel and Gladys Lucille (Talbot) Warfel on March 4, 1930, in Norman, Ok. Ann was raised in New England and graduated from high school at an American school in Manila, Philippines, in 1948. She then attended Western State College in Gunnison, CO earning her BS in Education with a minor in Art.
Ann met the love of her life, Dick Hicks of Olathe, CO. They were married June 14, 1953. Two children were born to this union. She taught school before her children were born.
When they all moved to Niwot, Ann went to work for IBM for 20 years. She loved the mountains, rocks and birds. Dick and Ann loved to travel. They had a small airplane which they flew to many places. After she retired, she spent a fair amount time painting with water colors.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Richard (Dick) Hicks; brother Bill Warfel (Phyllis) of Hamden, CT; sister-in-law Connie (Delbert) Kroschel of Montrose, CO; son Michael (Pati) Hicks of Longmont; daughter Nancy Randolph of Niwot; five grandchildren Jared (Beth) Hicks; Janis (Ralph) Hicks, Wes (Pam) Randolph; Ben (Shannon) Randolph; and Bo (Heather) Randolph.
She had eight great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Life Celebration will be held at The Left Hand Grange on April 22 from 1 to 4 p.m.
