Reflections from Mary

When we first started the Courier I had the distinct impression that we were like one of those 1940s Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney movies, where the kids put on a show in a barn and then decide to take it to Broadway.

We were seven people with diverse backgrounds – a lawyer, an architect, a paralegal, a photographer, a teacher, a banker and a FDA investigator. Not quite the butcher, baker and candlestick maker, but close.

Our main goal was to highlight the academic and athletic accomplishments of area students that the two local dailies tended to ignore. We also hoped to aid in creating a sense of community and a means of communication for groups in the area, and to have some fun.

It has been fun, but has come with lots of growing pains. Personally, I still think our biggest accomplishment that was we got the second issue out.

Because of our loyal readers and advertisers, we are able to keep you informed about what the LID, Niwot Historical Society, NCA, NBA, NCAA and area schools are doing. We’ve been able to cover important issues such as annexation, proposed developments, municipalization, those who contribute endless volunteer hours, and, of course, prairie dogs.

Community is at the heart of what we do. From Rock & Rails, Easter egg hunts, parades celebrating the 4th of July and Christmas, to Halloween trick or treating, and First Friday Art Walk. We are proud to have helped raise funds to renovate Left Hand Grange Hall, aid in making the Niwot Children’s Park come to life to name just a few.

Mostly we’d like to say thank you. Thank you to our readers, because without your support of our advertisers and your readership, we wouldn’t be publishing.
