All Local, All The Time
Hunter Stephens, a senior at Niwot High School, has been an important part of the Cougar baseball team during his high school career. Stephens, who carries a 3.0 GPA, saw action in 11 varstiy games as a sophomore, batting .333. He worked his way into a regular varsity position as a junior, primarily playing third base while seeing some action on the mound, then moved to the outfield as a senior, while continuing to play third base and pitch. “He’s been playing baseball since he was four years old,” his mother, Sonia Marrero said.
Hunter hit his first varsity homerun this season against Northridge, and ended the season with 12 runs scored and 8 RBI. He also pitched in 10 games, including a 12-2 victory over David Douglas High School in Arizona. As a junior, he earned a victory on the mound over Silver Creek and batted .277 for the season. Next year,Hunter plans to play baseball in California at Barstow Community College where he will major in business before transferring to a 4-year school to obtain a degree in finance.
