IBM Connector Trail Update

The IBM Connector Trail between the LOBO Trail and the Coot Lake Trail south of Tom Watson Park near the IBM plant was initially scheduled to open May 16, but construction issues have pushed out the opening by at least a month.

“Unfortunately the IBM trail project ran into some delays as we worked through some technical items with the railroad,” said Andrew Barth, communications director for Boulder County Transportation. “Both the county and the railroad owner want to make sure that everyone who rides or walks along and under the tracks remains safe, so we’ve been working to come up with solutions that will help.

“We’re going to install a canopy along each side of the tracks for about 30-feet in each direction that will help catch any debris and other items that could potentially fall from above. This will also help keep the path free from debris and ensure a smooth ride,” Barth said.

Construction is still underway and Barth hopes a new opening date will coincide with Bike to Work Day in June. Once open, the trail will connect the Longmont to Boulder LOBO Trail in Gunbarrel on the Cottontail Trail segment with the Boulder Reservoir trail system.

“Safety for all roadway and trail users is our number one priority, so we want to be sure that everyone has an enjoyable experience when riding or walking through the area,” Barth said.
