May snow brings arbor woes

The heavy, wet snow on Thursday, May 18 played havoc with many Gunbarrel area trees. David-Michael and Glenda Monasch lost a tree in a manner they can only describe as being “explosive.”

“Glenda saw one of the bigger branches starting to quiver,” David-Michael said. “She called me. We were looking out of the windows. Before we could go out and shake any of the branches, right there and then, in seconds, ‘boosh!’”

“The whole tree exploded, all at once,” Glenda said. “Not one branch came down on its own. The whole thing just split apart.”

Perhaps the best description Glenda heard was from the mailman, who said he’d never seen a tree peel itself like a banana.
