All Local, All The Time
Dawson School held its graduation ceremony on May 27, when 57 seniors crossed the stage to begin a new chapter in their lives. Collectively, the class marked a number of milestones, including over $5.7 million in merit scholarships earned and 100% acceptance to 4-year colleges and universities.
Mean ACT scores for the group were above the 90th percentile. Four students are moving on to play sports at the collegiate level, six plan to major or minor in performing/visual arts, and 13 plan to major in STEM fields.
The Class of 2017 will matriculate at a diverse collection of colleges. Dawson has full-time college counseling staff devoted to working with its students and families and sharing its belief that college is “a match to be made, not a prize to be won.”
A sampling of the colleges and universities Dawson students will attend include Boston University, Carleton College, Chapman University, Colorado College, Duke University, Georgetown University, Harvard University, Maryland Institute College of Art, Princeton University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rose-Hulman Institute of Tecnology, Smith College, U.S. Air Force Academy, Wake Forest University, and Whitman College.
Presenting to a packed house, graduation guest speaker was entrepreneur Shari Leidich (Two Moms in the Raw, Know Brainer), who shared insights on how to turn life’s challenges into opportunities; Leidich’s daughter, Sarah, was among this year’s graduates.
