In their final night game of 2017, the Cougars lost 69-0 to conference opponent Broomfield in front of the home crowd at Everly Montgomery Field Oct. 19. It was Niwot’s eighth loss of the season and third straight shut-out.
Senior quarterback Matt Baun went 9-for-16 with 59 yards passing and led the Cougars in rushing, gaining 15 yards on four carries. His freshman counterpart, Ayden Bartko, was 1-for-3 passing, with –7 yards on the ground.
Sophomore running back Liam Flanagan was back in the lineup on Thursday night, and carried the ball three times for –2 yards. He also had 20 yards receiving. Last week’s leading runner, sophomore Eric Ruiz, had 13 yards on six carries. Sophomore Noah Peña led the Cougars in receiving, with five catches for 35 yards, while senior Bradon Golon, also back in the lineup after an injury, had one catch for eight yards.
Elsewhere, senior Brandon Barton handled kick returns for Niwot, ending the night with 53 yards on two returns, including one for 34 yards. He also had a solo tackle. Seniors Shane Timmerman and Trent Tadewald combined for five tackles, and kicker James Lerner punted seven times for 170 yards.
The Cougars will be back at Everly Montgomery next Saturday afternoon against Greeley West. Kickoff is at 11 a.m.
