All Local, All The Time
Niwot High School’s production of The Drowsy Chaperone takes to the stage running from Thursday, November 9 through Sunday, November 12. All shows are at 7 p.m., except for the final show on Sunday, which is a matinee presented at 2 p.m.
The play’s premise is a nod to old-time American jazz productions. It follows a quirky, middle-aged musical theater fan who has a running commentary on a fake production called The Drowsy Chaperone set in 1928.
The complicated twists and turns of the actors weave together a rousing web of mistaken identities, dream sequences, and a host of characters, including a strangely calm English butler, an absent-minded widow, a wacky Broadway manager, ridiculous gangsters, a ditzy madam, and an agitated best man. The central character of the show –within-the-show is the tipsy chaperone, the Grande Dame of the Stage, who takes on the no holds barred musical songs in order to be center stage.
Show dates and times are Nov. 9, 10 and 11 at 7 p.m., Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.
Venue: Niwot High School Tickets: $15 each for general seating. Advance tickets may be purchased by calling Michelle Baker at 303-652-2550.
