NHS Key Club works to expand Holiday Parade

The Niwot High School Key Club is working to help with this year’s Holiday Parade for the Enchanted Evening.

Key Club President Sara Bovaird said that the group has reached out to the school’s athletic teams, clubs and the choir to be part of the parade on Friday.

Along with Key Club Vice President Siri Hvidevold, they’ve gained some ground to help Niwot Business Association Secretary Linda Klueber organize the parade that starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25 on 2nd Avenue.

“We aren’t quite sure if snow will drive people away,” Bovaird said. “But we hope people will come out to enjoy it and support the Niwot Cougars.”

Bovaird said that the Key Club has helped with the parade in the past, but hopes that this year’s efforts will help in the future.

Key Club at Niwot High School is known for its monthly bake sales, and they also help with blood drives at the school.

“We’re an international service club,” Bovaird said. “Our mission at the moment is to raise money for the Thirst Project, which is raising money to build wells in Swaziland (Africa). The blood drive is something that we’ve always done and follow up on. We keep up on that and hold it twice a year.”

The club currently has 15 members and is open to any NHS student, which Bovaird said is a fun way to get involved.

“It is busy sometimes, but I really enjoy getting out into the town and helping,” Bovaird said. “Getting people involved and being active with friends is a great way for us to do that together.”

The Key Club also works with other school organizations like the National Honor Society. Bovaird says she hopes to use the skills learned as she goes on to college at Colorado State University.

“I want to stay active in the community,” Bovaird said. “After I graduate, I’ll be going to a place I don’t know. But there are a lot of programs that focus on volunteering and that’s something I enjoy and want to continue doing.”
