All Local, All The Time
Niwot Elementary is proud to recognize Ben Codevilla as our student of the month. Ben is nine years old, and a third-grader in his second year at NES. Ben is a student who demonstrates responsibility and bravery.
In January, Ben was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. At first, Ben was sad about his diagnosis. But now he feels good and reports that he is figuring it out. The office staff at NES are impressed daily by his desire to understand and be independent with his disease.
“It’s different having diabetes at school,” Ben said. “I have to get shots at school, and before I didn’t.” Ben is proud that he is able to do his own finger prick test.
Ben’s teachers describe him as an extremely polite boy who is always willing to do whatever is asked of him. He is kind to peers in class and at recess, and he shares classroom materials and playground equipment. Ben’s favorite thing about NES is PE and his favorite subject is math (particularly multiplication). Outside of school Ben enjoys swimming, where he competes in freestyle and relay. Last summer he even made the state team. He also enjoys riding his bike. When Ben grows up he hopes to become a pilot. We are proud to call him a Cougar!
