All Local, All The Time

Soup, Soup and More this weekend

The Niwot United Methodist Church will be hosting the 22nd annual Soup, Soup and More community dinner and fundraiser event from 4 to 7 p.m. on April 21.

Proceeds this year will not only help the Our Center of Longmont, but will help the church’s choir travel to New York later this year to perform at Carnegie Hall.

“We’re going to split the proceeds between the two this year,” Janet Gates, one of the event’s organizers, said. “The choir has been invited to perform in November, so we’ll use some of this to help fund their trip.”

The choir was asked to perform a new Christmas cantata by Pepper Choplin, a renowned composer. The local choir was invited after someone Choplin knows saw a video online of the choir performing one of his pieces.

During the soup dinner, the choir will perform at 4 p.m.

Gates said that the dinner usually serves over 100 people, depending on the weather.

“People bring their families and invite their neighbors,” Gates said. “Some people are looking forward to it, and some just notice the sign and stop in for soup.”

There are many types of soups, chowders, stews and chilis served. Guests can get sample cups before grabbing a bowl. Salad, desserts and drinks will also be served.

“It’s fun to be able to try all of the different recipes,” Gates said. “We have the tables set up so you come through and get soup buffet style. Then you can sit down, meet someone new or see someone you haven’t seen in awhile. Come for food, listen to music, enjoy fellowship. It’s just a great time.”

Tickets are free and donations are welcome. The church is located at 7405 Lookout Road in Gunbarrel.
