All Local, All The Time

Wine, Cheese and Chocolate tasting for Rotary

The Niwot Rotary Club will be having its eighth-annual Wine, Cheese and Chocolate tasting on May 4 at the Longmont Museum on Quail Road.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction to accompany the refreshments.

Rotarian Chris Wiorek said that the event is slated to help both Colorado Friendship and the Longmont Meals on Wheels program this year.

“It’s called Wine, Cheese and Chocolate tasting and that’s exactly what we do,” Wiorek said. “This year we have 10 different wines from around the world — a cross section of what’s out there.”

Tickets are $50 at the door. The tickets include tokens for wine sampling; the cheese and chocolate is free and unlimited.

There will be a live auction with ten items that begins around 7 p.m. The silent auction has around 40 items that will be available for bids throughout the evening, with the Tony Gulizia Quartet providing entertainment.

The Rotary Club of Niwot currently has about 20 members, who have recently helped with work at the Firehouse Museum and Whistle Stop Park.

“We’re a small club but we do a lot in the community,” Wiorek said. “We do quite a few things locally. We try to do as much as we can in Niwot.”

The club helps at Niwot High School with leadership building and also provides scholarships for students.

“Our main purpose is fundraising and supporting our community,” Wiorek said. “That’s really what Rotary does. I’m not sure people are really familiar with Rotary and what we do, but we’re really focused on supporting our community. So that’s what we’re about and what this event is about as well.”

The Niwot Rotary meet at the Lefthand Grange on Thursday mornings at 7:30 a.m. For more information, visit www.niwotrotary.org.
