All Local, All The Time
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national organization, and two students from Niwot High School will be representing the state of Colorado at the national competition this summer.
Juniors Ayesha Hayat and Hannahy Chacon Gonzalez are heading out with one other representative from Colorado thanks to their project on diversity at Niwot Elementary School.
Their project was called “Focus on Children,” and included educating the NES students about four different cultures including coloring pages with themes related to the cultures.
FCCLA sponsor at NHS Julie Dye said that the STAR competition is scored against a rubric, and their project reflected the students’ own diverse backgrounds.
“The way they saw it is that if they could do a presentation on diversity, tolerance and acceptance at an earlier age, maybe students would carry it with them,” Endres said. “It would decrease bullying and increase the students in being more worldly.”
