All Local, All The Time
Next fall, students and staff will notice huge changes when they return to Niwot High School. Renovations will occur both inside and outside the building. There will be new signage outside the school as you walk into the front patio entrance. Athletes will enjoy the newly resurfaced track. In addition, the tennis courts will be expanded from six to eight and refurbished.
Inside the school, solar tubes will be installed allowing natural light to come in from the ceilings. The commons area will be completely renovated, with a long cascading staircase, where students will be able to eat, study and socialize. The entire school will be recarpeted.
There will also be changes to the interior classrooms. The library will be completely demolished and crafted into the school’s new media center and maker space. Students will be able to come down to create and design things whenever they desire.
The auditorium will be completely renovated with all new seats, new carpet and a new stage floor. Lastly, the counseling suite will be demolished making room for two special education classrooms, turning it into a special education suite. In total, the renovations between last summer and this summer, will cost between nine and ten million dollars.
Renovations are scheduled to begin this week and will take the entire summer. The principal and the administrative staff will be housed at Sunset Middle School during construction.
Principal Eric Rauschkolb said, “We are very much appreciative for our community and voters who have made it possible to provide our students with a world-class facility so they can receive a world-class education.”
