All Local, All The Time
On March 2, Niwot United Methodist Church (NUMC) hosted its 23rd annual Soup, Soup and More community dinner. Each year, the church selects a local organization or charity as the benefactor of all funds raised. Proceeds from this year’s community dinner went to Boulder Attention Homes to help furnish the non-profit’s 40 new apartments in downtown Boulder.
The Soup, Soup and More dinner was a success and event organizer, Janet Gates, couldn’t be happier. Around 80 guests braved the snowy evening to enjoy the all-you-can-eat buffet of traditional soups, spicy chilis and hearty chowders.
In total, the dinner raised $2,600 for Boulder Attention Homes. $1,100 of the proceeds came directly from the community dinner and $85 in donations from the church’s participation in Let’s Wine About Winter where soup samples were offered. Niwot United Methodist Women donated $1,000 and NUMC donated $500.
Boulder Attention Homes provides support and housing for youth and young adults who are facing homelessness. According to BAH, nearly 1,200 Boulder County residents under the age of 18 experience homelessness every year. BAH focuses on helping children and young adults from the ages of 12-24 secure housing, reducing stress and fostering a sense of purpose, safety, and individuality.
Gates recently visited Boulder Attention Homes’ apartment build to personally deliver the generous donation. The money will help furnish some of the 40 units. “I’m excited we’re able to help the teens in this way. I know with a roof over their heads, that takes a lot of the stress away.” Gates said of the donation.
Boulder Attention Homes performs a vital service for our community, reaching out to its often-overlooked members and provide sanctuary and stability. To do so requires time and money. If you’re looking to get involved with a worthwhile organization and see the good, first hand, volunteer with or donate to Boulder Attention Homes.
The organization hosts a variety of events throughout the year to raise awareness for youth homelessness. The November “Sleep-Out” requires attendees to sleep outside in order to raise funds and awareness for Boulder’s homeless children. In 2018, Sleep Out raised $100,000 and had over 100 people in attendance. Learn more about Boulder County and its residents by offering your time and talent to Boulder Attention Homes.
