All Local, All The Time

The first Rock & Rails concert of 2019, produced by the Niwot Cultural Arts Association (NCAA) and the Niwot Business Association, drew quite a crowd. Guests arrived early to grab spots in the shade and close to the stage. The sky set a pretty magical backdrop, its gentle sunset mingling with an approaching evening storm, which held off until after the 9 p.m. end of the event.

There was a major difference between this year’s Rock & Rails and prior seasons, felt by volunteers and attendees alike. Dave Frankfort, who passed away in late February from congestive heart failure, was an integral part of this summer celebration for many years.

As parking and security coordinator for Rock & Rails, Frankfort made guests, performers, and volunteers feel safe and important. Before the headliner took the stage, Biff Warren, co-manager of the event, and Satir DeMarco, emcee, dedicated the night to Frankfort’s memory.

Legitimate by Friday, featuring NHS grads Mike Anderson and Michael Warren, as well as Andrew Brentan, John Giarratano and Michael Ohara, opened with a lively performance, followed by the motown-sound of headliner One on One. Taps at the beer tent flowed, and the food, as always, was delicious and best when washed down with a tasty brew from Bootstrap Brewing or Crystal Springs Brewing..

The tip jar proceeds to benefit improvements to Whistle Stop Park, set a new record with over $1,700 donated.

Summer is here, and with it comes the chance to connect with our unique community, catch up with neighbors and make new friends. The June 13 concert opens with Gunbarrel resident Dean Himes, followed by the headliner, Funkiphino.
