Spirit Elk reappears

After a two-month absence, the female elk has returned to the Schultz Family Farm on Hwy. 287 and Oxford Rd. Sometimes she's in the field with Calvin and Chester, the oxen, and other times she hops in with the chickens, goats, sheep or pigs. This is the third guest stay for what farmer Glen Schultz calls the Spirit Elk. He credits the work done on regenerating the farm soil for her love of the land. She comes and goes as she pleases and she partakes of feed available to the oxen. What's different about this visit is her behavior in defining her place in the pecking order of the farm animals and she's not as skittish about humans being nearby. "I'm able to get closer, but I want to keep a distance too. I don't ever want to get to where I'm petting her," Schultz said.
