All Local, All The Time
Every wonder what your family dog or cat might be thinking of present circumstances? Here's one writer's take on her family pets' impression of the current situation.
Dear LHVC,
What a crazy time this is! Where to begin ...
Well, let's start with the walks-the glorious walks galore! I think my humans finally realized the benefits of the W-A-L-K. Which, of course, I have been telling them since day one. Why settle for one walk a day when you can have three! Or six! Or ten! We've been all over the neighborhood, and I think they are starting to enjoy the outings just as much as me.
And, oh boy, the treats! And the games! The young humans are home now too, so our days are regularly full of ball fetching and stick catching and toy chewing delights (me doing the fetching, catching, and chewing, of course).
It's not all fun and games though. I am now one of the most popular members of my grown humans' online meetings. I have to make a regular appearance, and everyone is very thrilled to see me. Which means I have to be ready to jump up at all hours of the day for my cameo. It's not easy, but someone has to do it.
And have you seen all the new kids on the block? I think every other house on my street has a new pup. I overheard the good news from my human that some shelters are clean out of adoptable dogs.
And my humans seem pretty happy to have me around too. The other day my human told me we are all in this together. And I'd have to agree. So here's to enjoying togetherness, especially in the form of walks.
With enthusiasm,
The Dog

To Whom This May Concern,
I am a bit befuddled by the humans being ever present in my house. It's been quite a number of weeks, and my co-inhabitants seem to show no sign of going back to wherever they go during the day. I have to tell you it has been a bit disruptive to my daily schedule, especially my napping regimen.
I will admit that the availability of a warm lap or toasty laptop is quite convenient, although the human seems less enthusiastic about my choice of nap sites when I sprawl on their keyboard. It has been tough to adapt my napping schedule, but it seems we all must make sacrifices for safety in present times.
On the plus side, they seem to perhaps finally understand my obsession with the plethora of invaders in my yard-the squadrons of birds and don't even get me started on the nefarious squirrels. I do appreciate having them home to let me in and out at my every whim.
The humans do seem very happy to have me around these days. We spend long lazy evenings together-them catching up on all their shows, me contentedly dozing on my choice of laps.
And even though they drive me crazy sometimes, it is nice to have them home and to be able to be close to the humans who love me. They'd better just keep an eye on those squirrels.
Kindly,
The Cat
