On July 7, 2019, a passing storm created a full arc rainbow framing the tree sculpture of Spear Lodge Man on Niwot Road.
Eddie Running Wolf , an artist who created the Native American tree sculptures in Niwot, passed away on Aug. 5 due to complications from a suspected case of COVID-19. He was 62. He leaves behind his wife Melissa and two sons, Calvin, 23, and Dustin, 21. A GoFundMe has been created to assist the family with medical and funeral expenses. Preston Cates, a family friend, is also holding a fundraiser on Sunday, Aug. 9. Below is a letter from Cates to the community:
To who this may address,
One of my best friends from childhood is Calvin Wolf. His father, Eddie Running Wolf, an Artist who was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado passed away on August 5th, 2020 at 2:10 pm. Eddie, a self-taught steward of his own craft devoted everything he had to his family and his art. Dropping out of high school at the age of sixteen, Eddie pursued his passion and embarked on a journey only a handful of artists boldly chase. Whether it be painting on a canvas, sculpting a block of marble, or chipping away to reveal a large Native American Totem Pole Eddie's pieces were astonishing. A rare talent, and visionary in the art sector, Eddie was his most difficult critic. One with honest hard work would create beauty. Well known for his pieces in Aspen and Niwot Colorado, Eddie's artwork touched the lives of many people. You can read more about Eddie on his personal website linked below.
Eddie's family, Melissa, Calvin, and Dustin are left with medical bills and a house that Eddie was in the midst of remodeling. Margie, Eddie's sister, started a GoFundMe page with the goal of raising $50,000. A fifth of that number was raised and I am reaching out to the community to help raise the rest of the amount.

This Sunday, August 9th starting at 2:10 pm I will be running for 24 hours around Fairview High School Track to raise awareness and celebrate Eddie. For every lap that I run, I will be donating $1 to the fund. I am looking for sponsors to either match or exceed my donation.
