All Local, All The Time
The Easter Bunny won't be hiding eggs in Niwot this year, but that won't stop Pat Murphy from filling baskets and bellies at a free pancake breakfast at Niwot Real Estate (7915 Niwot Rd.) on Saturday, April 3, from 8 - 11 a.m.
"I couldn't go by another year without doing anything," Murphy said. "All of my volunteers are helping. My tried and true flippers Chris Klatt and the gang will be flipping."
Murphy has been hosting the town's annual Easter egg hunt for more than 40 years, and was crushed when she had to cancel it in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since conditions aren't quite back to normal yet, the 2021 festivities will be smaller in scope than usual, but it will have all the trappings of the classic event, Murphy said, plus masks and social distancing, of course.
"We will be handing out goody bags with candy and some will have golden eggs containing a surprise. There will be balloons, and Eddie Spaghetti is going to be coming, the Easter Bunny is going to be coming. It should be a fun morning."
Also on the breakfast menu this year are sausage and hard-boiled eggs, courtesy of Niwot Market. Murphy isn't charging for the event, but she will be collecting donations for the family of Officer Eric Talley, who was killed during the Boulder mass shooting on March 22.
For more Easter fun, Murphy is also organizing a motorcade through the neighborhoods of Niwot, starting at Brittany Place at 7:30 p.m. on April 3. Murphy estimates the entire tour will take about an hour, based on the holiday motorcade in December.
"Everybody enjoyed it the last time, but hopefully the weather is nicer," she said.
Masks and social distancing will be required at both events. For more information about the pancake breakfast or Easter motorcade, contact Pat Murphy at 303-589-7025.
