All Local, All The Time
Inkberry Books was buzzing with excitement as Niwot's best spellers swarmed to the inaugural Harvest Festival spelling bee on Aug. 28. The competition was friendly, but fierce as local students in three age groups showed off their impressive vocabulary skills, while vying for an Inkberry gift certificate. By day's end, three new champions were crowned, and everyone learned a little bit more about pollinators along the way.
First up was the six to eight-year- old group with the day's most enthusiastic participants: Theo Christopoulus, a third grader at Niwot Elementary, and Henry Himmerick, an NES second grader. The contest for eight to 10 year old drew the biggest crowd, with eight contestants, including fifth-grader Sylvia Madry, NES's reigning spelling champion, and Henry's sister Eden. Wrapping things up was the 11-13 year old group, where local middle schoolers faced off.
