All Local, All The Time

SVVSD candidate profile: Sarah Hurianek

Education is in Sarah Hurianek's blood–a number of family members were and are educators, and she has worked in early childhood education for over 20 years. In addition to her on-the job experience, she has been an active member of the Mead community and even graduated from Skyline High School in the St. Vrain Valley School District herself. Her husband Noah Hurianek, also a teacher, grew up in Niwot where both of his parents, Dennis and Nancy Hurianek, were long-time teachers.

"Serving as a board member would allow me to support our amazing educators and staff," she said. "Running for [the] SVVSD Board of Education feels like the perfect opportunity to support and serve the community that we love."

If elected, Hurianek would represent the District F area area, which includes Mead and much of Longmont. She said that she is excited at the prospect of serving as a voice for her community and finding innovative ways to provide top-tier education to the district.

This is Hurianek's first campaign for the board and she said that it's been "a big learning curve, but I love it so far." One of the things she enjoys about the campaign trail is talking to voters, saying, "It has led me to meet some amazing people and have delightful conversations with them."

Previously, she has been involved with the Mead Parent Advisory Committee and has served as the Spring Fundraiser's Chair. Recently, she also served as a guardian with the High Plains Honor Flight, a program that supports local veterans. "While the pandemic put a damper on the trips for a while, it is something my family and I will continue to support."

Hurianek also cited the pandemic as a cause of stress and disruption to education. She believes that SVVSD has been very transparent and communicated well throughout the experience, and said she hopes to be part of the positive change that comes as the district moves out of it.

"I recognized how I could help be of service," she said. "I don't bring any politics to the table. As a mom and a teacher, I am personally invested in the district's growth and excellence."

If elected, Hurianek plans to ensure representation, advocate for students' needs and support the board in its path toward financial stability. She also expressed excitement about supporting district educators and staff.
