All Local, All The Time
On Tuesday, Dec. 7, Niwot resident Steve Herring found three bobcats lounging on Paiute Avenue. He was walking his dogs at 9 a.m. when he saw the felines, two lying together on a neighbor's front lawn, while the other sat by the shoe of a gutter. Herring watched them in awe for about five minutes, and none of the bobcats minded him or his dogs.
Herring said he has heard other rumors of a bobcat appearing in the same backyard and another one walking behind Niwot High School. As of now, these sightings are unconfirmed, but there does seem to be an uptick in wildlife encounters in the area.
If you encounter a bobcat or other wild animal on your property, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife department advises you to keep pets away, and observe safely from a distance. If the animal poses a danger, contact your local CPW office or local law enforcement agency.
