All Local, All The Time
On Dec. 7, Niwot resident Steve H. reported seeing three bobcats in his neighbor's yard on Paiute Avenue, which the Courier published in its Dec. 15 edition.
Since then, the Courier has received some feedback from local resident Dr. Sharon Greenleaf La Pierre, on how our community can protect bobcats. Dr. La Pierre was the Founding Chair of the Wildlife Legacy Trust Fund serving the Community Foundation of Boulder County. She currently works at Red Raven Farms to rescue animals and raise horses.
Dr. La Pierre advises the general public not to approach these animals. She also recommends that residents keep a close eye on their pets when they go outside, especially during dawn or dusk, when bobcats are the most active.
Please do not shoot or injure bobcats if they are rummaging on your property. Instead, call 303- 441-3600 for the Boulder County Animal Control or call (303) 823-8455 for the Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center for any wildlife emergency. These organizations will safely capture the animal and then release it back into the wild.
