The Wandering Jellyfish to host writing workshop

The Wandering Jellyfish (198 2nd Ave.) is hosting a writer's workshop on Thursday, Feb. 24, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event is part of the bookshop's series of local authors invited to share their books and their creative process. Next in line is Todd Mitchell, sharing his new book, "Breakthrough: How to Overcome Doubt, Fear and Resistance to Be Your Ultimate Creative Self." He is an award-winning author for his middle grade and YA novels, and is the director of the Beginning Creative Writing Program at CSU.

Mitchell will be sharing his perspective-shifting solutions for how to enhance creativity, reject toxic standards for success, and make creative endeavors more enjoyable. Attendees can expect an evening of inspiration and camaraderie with Mitchell and fellow writers and creatives. The workshop will be interactive and generative, and writers will leave with new tools to try out in their creative writing process, as well as a copy of Mitchell's book, included with the registration fee of $19. Reservations must be made on the bookshop's website.

In addition, the bookshop will be hosting an event in March, featuring three distinguished YA novelists from Colorado: JC Peterson ("Being Mary Bennet," forthcoming from HarperCollins), Meg Long ("Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves, Macmillan"), and Leslie Vedder ("The Bone Spindle", Penguin Random House). The authors will share tips on surviving an author's debut year. The bookshop will have more details and provide registration sign up on the website soon.

And while you're at the Wandering Jellyfish, Winot celebrate Black History Month with a good book? If you're looking for a book filled with romance, try "Blackout." It's a collection of short love stories taking place during a New York City blackout. This book was created in collaboration with six celebrated black authors during the pandemic whose goal was to inspire hope and spark joy during an unprecedented year.

Other books the Wandering Jellyfish has in stock include "African Town", a free-verse novel about the last transatlantic slave ship, "This Posion Heart", the story of a teen girl with botanical powers about to discover her family's diabolical past, "Legendborn", a novel about a college student who discovers a secret society on her campus, "Black Birds in the Sky", a history describing the legacy of the Tulsa Race Massacre, and "The 1619 Project", an award-winning reframing of American history that placed slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative.
