Grange Field Gets Grass

By Lori Lindemann

Thanks to Jim Beckley and the Boulder Valley Rotary Club, the Left Hand Valley Grange Baseball Fields are readied for play! Jim and some of the Rotary Club members joined the Boulder County Sheriff's Department's Work Enders participants and Niwot Youth Sports Volunteers in laying sod at the new Left Hand Valley Grange Baseball Fields April 19th.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Department, headed by Sheriff George Epp, administers a program called 'Work Enders' for citizens who would otherwise be serving time in the county jail for minor offenses. Sergeant Ross Martinez, who heads the program, works with Lead Deputy Ray Sarno to ensure the participants are supporting the community in various ways. The Work Enders bring their own tools and equipment required for the task at hand. This is the fifth time NYS has benefited from the Work Enders support.

The Rotary Club raised enough money to purchase the sod. They also solicited donations from the Niwot Village Market, Lefty's Pizza and Abo's Pizza to feed the crews.

Niwot Youth Sports manages several baseball and softball fields in the Niwot area. All of the fields, fences, sprinkler system and dugouts have been built and are now maintained by volunteer effort.
