All Local, All The Time

Egg-cellent Hunt Returns

The long-awaited return of Niwot's very own Easter Egg Hunt, hosted by Pat Murphy and team (Tara Littell, Ann Mills and Todd Goad) from The Niwot Group at Compass, with help from the Niwot Market crew and the Niwot Patriotic Cookie Moms, was a huge success.

The weather was perfect on the morning of April 16th for the 41st Annual Easter Egg Hunt event at Niwot High School with Colorado's blue skies above, crisp spring temperatures, with lots of smiles and fun.

The Easter Egg Hunt historically has been a thank you letter of sorts to the Niwot community by Murphy and her co-workers. This year, however, the event had an even bigger purpose than just for fun.

The pancake breakfast, served from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., kicked off the day. Prepared by Bert Steele and his crew from the Niwot Market as well as a slew of volunteers, the breakfast also marked the beginning of the "Baby Ila Fundraiser" with all net proceeds donated to the family of Ila Lambing.

Since her birth in December 2021, Ila has been under treatment at Children's Hospital. Ila's dad, Adam Lambing, works at Niwot's post office, and her mother works in Loveland as a nurse. For nearly five months, Ila has endured many surgeries, with the parents traveling to Children's Hospital in Denver on a daily basis.

Knowing that any family would struggle with medical bills and costs associated with care and travel, Murphy and her team thought it was the perfect time to ask people to donate to the Lambing family. The breakfast provided an opportunity for locals to donate to help offset the costs associated with care for baby Ila.

The Lambings, who attended the event with baby Ila, were very appreciative of the help and kind words that they received from the Niwot community, both at the Easter Egg Hunt, and daily at the post office. The family received a total of $2,068 from the event's net proceeds.

After being canceled due to the pandemic for two years, the annual Easter Egg Hunt was back, and more popular than ever. As in the past, the Niwot High School kitchen team took the time to boil some 1,800 eggs. This year the Slepicka family dyed the eggs and volunteers from Niwot High School hid them and other treats on the back side of the school, and on the athletic fields at the school.

After breakfast, young and old gathered in the Niwot High School parking lot where they were entertained by singer Eddie Spaghetti and Sami Ann Clown. The Little Angels Pony and Pals petting zoo was on hand with miniature ponies, goats and a hog. Children enjoyed getting to know the animals, petting and becoming friends.

By 10:00 a.m. the egg hunters were ready to go! The countdown began and the flood gates opened to hundreds of kids racing on to the fields. There were dyed eggs, filled eggs, treats and more. Golden eggs were filled with a ticket that children could turn in for a prize. Prizes included footballs, frisbees, kites and themed toys A group of student volunteers were on hand to guide the hunters and hand out prizes.
