NCA August board meeting

The Niwot Community Association (NCA) held its monthly board meeting Aug. 3 in the Mountain View Fire Rescue Niwot Station conference room.

The board bid farewell to Kim Hawksworth who stepped down as the NCA’s events planning director because she will be leaving Niwot. Kim has been a member of the board since 2015, and has served as events planning director since 2018. The board expressed their appreciation for the years of work that Kim put into what is one of the most important roles in the organization.

The NCA sponsored the National Night Out event Aug. 2, which the board deemed a success with a nice turnout from the community. See the separate article in this issue of the Courier for complete coverage.

The board discussed plans for the annual Veterans Banner Project. This project occurs each fall in collaboration with the Niwot Business Association.

Niwotians can purchase a banner for a nominal fee to honor an active duty member or veteran of the United States Armed Forces. Each banner displays a photo of the honoree, his or her military branch and the years of service. Banners are hung from poles in downtown Niwot and in Cottonwood Square. Sponsors can keep the banner after the display period ends. The deadline to request a banner is September 15. You can find details at the NCA website: http://www.niwot.org/veterans/. A veteran’s banner ceremony will be held near Veteran’s Day.

The board expressed its appreciation for the work of Scout Troop 161 and the Niwot Nifties 4-H Club on bike decorations and parade management on the 4th of July. Volunteer groups are vital to the success of events that the NCA sponsors. In recognition of their hard work, the NCA will donate money to each organization.

Bears in Niwot was a notable topic of discussion as reported by the NCA neighborhood Area Representatives.

The next board meeting will be held in the fire station conference room at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7. NCA members are encouraged to attend and the public is always welcome.
