Conveniently located inside Niwot Market, Juniper & Twine is the perfect spot to pick up a quick hand-tied arrangement while shopping the market, or consult with their designers to create perfect arrangements for any event which they will happily to ship to your door. The shop consists of a team of five women - all designers in their own right - who bring a breadth of talent to the business.

We sat with Operations Manager Olivia Perry and asked a few questions about this lovely business.

DJ: Tell us the inspiration behind Juniper & Twine, and what makes it stand out from the rest?

OP: Juniper & Twine is a culmination of floral shops in metropolitan cities such as London, Paris and New York. Our vision has been to create a boutique that emanates luxury and convenience. Our excellent service and attention to detail allows customers to be included from start to finish. Whether your product is shipped or shopped, we spend the extra time to make it beautifully unique through stand-out packaging and trend-setting designs. Everything we create is unique, authentic and made to make a lasting impression.

DJ: How did you get started and what was the inspiration for starting Juniper & Twine?

OP: Susy Shams, owner and designer, along with her daughter Nina started Juniper & Twine when they saw the opportunity to bring a floral design house to Niwot. At the time, Niwot relied on the only other nearby sources in Boulder or Longmont. It was the perfect mix of industry expertise and design with Susy's 30-plus years of wedding and catering experience, and her daughter Nina's incredible eye for creative direction. Together the two of them built a business that adds beauty, service and joy to Niwot.

DJ: Name a woman, past or present, whom you admire or look up to - and why?

OP: Personally, I look up to both my mother and Susy. They are two of the hardest working, beautiful women I've ever known, yet they do it with a certain finesse and touch of grace.

DJ: We know that giving back to your community is important to you. Tell us how you support Niwot.

OP: We source a good amount of our blooms from local farms (O.L.D. Farm, Slupik Mini-Farm, and KILT Farms). We've partnered with local schools in the community by showing our sincere appreciation and giving back to the teachers and staff. Additionally, we've been able to partner with the Niwot Business Association and local business owners to support local fundraisers. You'll see our many donations at the fundraisers throughout each year.

DJ: What has been the best piece of advice given to you?

OP: "We're not making penicillin here." Susy always says this to me. It is such an important reminder that at the end of the day, we need to give ourselves permission to not take everything so seriously. I think everyone needs that reminder.

DJ: What is one piece of advice you would give to a new business owner?

OP: Get a good bookkeeper! Thanks, Nancy!

DJ: How do you want people to feel when they walk in to Juniper & Twine?

OP: We are so much more than just a flower shop and delivery service. At Juniper & Twine we are forever evolving as the ultimate flower and gift emporium for the needs of those that live life with fullness and beauty. We want people to really experience what it is to be taken care of.

DJ: With regard to flowers, what is your favorite part of designing?

OP: It's so much fun to see the different varieties of florals throughout the seasons. Right now the dahlias are abundant for summer and by the winter holidays we see the narcissus, then with spring we all enjoy the tulips. There is an infinite amount of creativity in this business. Our designers each bring a keen eye to design, each different from the other, yet refined and creative at the same time.

DJ: Does Juniper & Twine offer other things along with their floral designs?

OP: One of my favorite services that we offer is our subscriptions! Subscribers choose a frequency of their delivery and the price point they're comfortable with for their floral arrangements. In return we design each subscriber with a unique arrangement for each delivery. It's one of the best ways to build a strong relationship and allows us the opportunity to get to know each of our clients individually.

DJ: Do you plan to carry other lines of gifts?

OP: We currently carry the best gifts in Boulder County if you ask me! We also source from all over the country and some of our new lines are coming from internationally. We just got in Jonathan Adler from New York, which offers contemporary decor that is beyond fun. Milkbarn is our favorite baby gift line out of Nashville. They have the best prints. Another favorite is the Lafco, New York, candle line. The scents are so clean and perfectly accent a bouquet. Don't forget to pick up a Louis Sherry Chocolate tin, another perfect accent to your gift giving. Soon we will offer handmade garments from Thailand. Keep an eye out!

DJ: Do you deliver flowers?

OP: We do. We deliver locally and all throughout Boulder County. It is such a pleasure to be able to put our talents to work and to deliver such happiness. We are a go-to design house for flowers, plants, gifts and all the beautiful things in between.

DJ: What do you want the Niwot community to know about Juniper & Twine that they might not know?

OP: I want Niwot to know that above being a retail business we are here to cultivate relationships. We're made up of a strong group of local women that love what we do. Come say hi!
