All Local, All The Time
The first Thursday night after Rock & Rails will feature a "bonus" concert, sponsored by the JARED Foundation. Anyone looking for one last night of the summer concert season will have a chance to support a local Niwot charity and enjoy live music and refreshments on Thursday, Sept. 1, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Whistle Stop Park.
The Jared Foundation, founded by Surinder and Renee Dahiya in memory of their son, Jared Lizakowski, provides music lessons and scholarships for children who are unable to afford them.
The Jared Foundation began in 2017 as a way for children from about age seven through high school to get a great start in music. They provide $1,000 scholarships for each music student who receives a scholarship. The foundation has so far awarded about $35,000 in scholarships. The funds go directly to music teachers rather than the students. Students in the program select their instructors who are paid directly from the scholarship fund.
The foundation was formed in honor of Jared Lizakowski who passed away in 2016 at the age of 19 from an accident on Niwot Road. Jared was a drummer since the age of nine, and was well known throughout the Niwot community. His friends and family formed the Jared Foundation, a non-profit group for underprivileged children who have an interest in music. All of the foundation donations go to music scholarships and instruments for children. The foundation also collects used instruments for re-use.
Please visit the web site https://jaredmusic.org/ for more information and to apply for a scholarship. Scholarships are currently available.
The music starts at 5 p.m. with Wren and Ian, a talented local duo, and continues at 6:30 p.m. with music from Soul School. Many of the Rock & Rails volunteers, including Gargoyles, security and parking staff, as well as the adult beverage servers, have volunteered to assist with the event.
